Announcement of $3 Million Fundraising Effort For Chalmers J. Lyons and James R. Hayward Endowed Chairs
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has announced a major fundraising effort to endow professorships honoring two former department chairs, Dr. James Hayward and Dr. Chalmers Lyons.

The $3 million fundraising campaign will enable the School of Dentistry to create the James R. Hayward Professorship and the Chalmers J. Lyons Collegiate Professorship in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Each professorship when fully endowed will honor Drs. Hayward and Lyons in perpetuity.
 
 
  1. The Summer Meeting will be June 27-29, 2008 on Mackinac Island, MI. Dr. Dale Baur will be our speaker. A housing registration form for the Grand Hotel can be downloaded here; please follow the instructions on it and return it soon to secure your reservation. Information regarding this meeting can be downloaded here as well.

  2. The AAOMS Meeting is in Seattle, WA. September 15-20, 2008. The CJ Lyons lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Karl Grammer, Director of the Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institute for Urban Ethology, Vienna Department of Anthropology, University of Vienna. Title:  Perfect Faces, Perfect Genes?

    Professor Karl Grammer, a zoologist and anthropologist, is currently Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Urban Ethology in Vienna.  Ethology, the study of characteristic behavior within individuals and groups, entails investigation of the physiologic, genetic, and anatomic elements that influence animal conduct. This lecture discusses the emanation and perception of facial and overall body esthetics in terms of their evolutionary, anatomical, neurological, and sexual fundaments.   Discussion of the brain structures responsible for beauty perception and the influence on them by voice, body motion, and complexion, among other traits, are highlights of this presentation.

    Our previously arranged speaker, Ken Alabek, has cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.

  3. The Fall Meeting will be Friday, October 3, 2008 in conjunction with the Illinois football game on Saturday. Our speaker will be Richard Robert, D.D.S., M.S. Dr. Robert is a fellow of AAOMS and a graduate of the U of M OMFS program in 1977. His topic: “Outpatient Anesthesia”
